Weekend SweetSpot – Aberdeenshire gets some shelter from the rain

Planning a quick getaway? To help you make the most of your outdoor leisure time, weathertrending picks out the Weekend SweetSpot – an area of the UK that we think looks one of the better placed, weather-wise, for the upcoming weekend.

We’re all likely to see some rain this weekend as Atlantic fronts steam across the UK. But with the Scottish mountains soaking up plenty of the wet stuff, Aberdeenshire to their east looks like benefitting from more shelter than most.

From the Cairngorms to the coast, the area offers plenty of variety in scenery and outdoor activities. Take a ramble round the majestic ruins of Dunnottar Castle, perching precipitously on the cliffs above the North Sea waves.

Golfers are a hardy lot. So, dressed appropriately for the showers, Aberdeenshire offers numerous high quality links courses against which to pit your wits, such as Cruden Bay, Kings or Stonehaven.

Of course, all that activity will build up a thirst. Lucky then that the region is the birthplace of many global whisky brands. So why not take a tour and enjoy a dram or two to warm you up?

Saturday looks like providing plenty of fine weather between the odd shower, and it will feel quite comfortable in the light winds. Sunday may be wetter and windier at times, but even then, it won’t be raining all day long.

Why not seek out this weekend’s SweetSpot?
