Weekend SweetSpot – NW Highlands – Grandeur as storm clouds clear

Planning a quick getaway? To help you make the most of your outdoor leisure time, weathertrending picks out the Weekend SweetSpot – an area of the UK that we think looks one of the better placed, weather-wise, for the upcoming weekend.

The prospect of stormy weather might put some of us off venturing out this weekend, but the reality is that some parts of the UK will do far better than the headlines suggest.

As wind and rain lash many places further south, the Northwest Highlands of Scotland – normally used to wild weather – could be the place to find some shelter from the elements.

And what prizes await the traveller to this magnificent corner of Britain!

The well-equipped hiker can enjoy roaming the mountains and glens. Alternatively do you fancy going over the sea to Skye? Then take the ‘Road to the Isles’ past Glenfinnan Monument, following in the footsteps of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

The many enchanting castles in the Highlands, such as Strome and Eilean Donan, will transport you to a different time and place in history. Such peace and tranquility, amidst the lochs, will take your breath away.

Waterproofs may be needed for a time on Saturday. But through the weekend, the clouds should gradually part, revealing some blue sky and magnificent vistas.

The breeze will be fresh and nights will be chilly. So take some layers. Yet, away from the gales and heavy rain elsewhere across Britain, a trip to the Northwest Highlands shouldn’t disappoint.

Why not check out this weekend’s SweetSpot?
