Weekend SweetSpot – South Devon – From moor to shore

Planning a quick getaway? To help you make the most of your outdoor leisure time, weathertrending picks out the Weekend SweetSpot Рan area of the UK that we think looks one of the better placed, weather-wise, for the upcoming weekend.

This weekend the weather elements will be battling it out across the UK – bringing rain, shine and even some snow to the north.

But tucked away in the ‘bottom left’ of the UK, South Devon looks well-placed to avoid the coldest and wettest of the weather. The visitor to this unspoilt corner of England will have few dull moments when it comes to the variety of sights and experiences on offer.

The ancient granite of Dartmoor creates an unmistakable, rugged beauty that is a ‘must’ for anyone new to the area. Rising over 2000 feet above the distant coast, this National Park offers so much to see and do. It’s a magnet for hikers and cyclists – and from the high tors to the deep hidden valleys, there’s a wealth of rare wildlife to view.

After taking in the charm of Exeter Cathedral, head south towards the coast. You’ll find yourself in a ‘different world’. It may be getting late in the year for a ‘dip’. But the myriad tiny coves and long open beaches are just as charming – whatever the time of year. What better way to spend an afternoon than to stroll along the empty sands? Then why not head to one of the many quayside restaurants for a fish supper?

The weekend should start fresh and dry, and although a little rain is possible later on Sunday, temperatures will be on the rise. Certainly, the weather shouldn’t get in the way too much during an action-packed weekend of sightseeing.
