Weekend SweetSpot – Cardigan Bay – (Shhh! It’s a secret…)

Planning a quick getaway? To help you make the most of your outdoor leisure time, weathertrending picks out the Weekend SweetSpot – an area of the UK that we think looks one of the better placed, weather-wise, for the upcoming weekend.

In this country, heading west can often mean heading into the wind and the rain. But that won’t be the case this weekend. Sheltered from easterly winds by the Cambrian Mountains, visitors to Cardigan Bay will be rewarded by a glimpse of many secret coastal gems.

The Bay offers us such a wide variety of landscapes. You’ll find coastal cliffs, pebble beaches, waterfalls and sandy stretches.

From the Ceredigion Coast Path, you could glimpse porpoises, grey seals and bottlenose dolphins – all in one day. Much of this landscape is protected, including sites managed by the National Trust and local Wildlife Trusts.

The outstanding beauty of Cardigan Bay was acknowledged when it became the UK’s first designated Marine Heritage Coast some 25 years ago.

Do you fancy stretching your legs? Bounded by the Preseli Hills to the south and Snowdonia in the north, some strenuous exercise will be rewarded by stunning vistas of the Bay.

The many quaint coastal towns and villages will provide you with shelter from the chill. And the hospitality will warm your winter evenings.

Much of the weekend will be chilly but dry with light winds, before rain sweeps in by Sunday night.
