Planning a quick getaway? To help you make the most of your outdoor leisure time, weathertrending picks out the Weekend SweetSpot – an area of the UK that we think looks one of the better placed, weather-wise, for the upcoming weekend. This time we head to The Isle of Wight.
Britain is emerging into springtime warmth, and this weekend you may be wanting to head to the coast to lap up the rays.
But while, undoubtedly, many of our popular beach resorts will be very busy, a short ferry trip across the Solent will take you to a far more special place.
Within minutes of leaving the mainland, the hubbub of everything day life will be fading away from your horizon. Relax! The Isle of Wight has the highest number of award-winning beaches in England.
But there’s far more to the island than the seaside. The Isle of Wight was recently crowned one of Lonely Planet’s “Top 10 Cycling Destinations in the World”. Hundreds of miles of cycling, walking and horse-riding routes are here to be enjoyed.
Of course, a view of the iconic Needles on the west coast is a must. But has the walk along the cliff-tops left you wanting an even bigger adrenaline rush? Then why not head to Blackgang Chine – Britain’s oldest theme park.
After all this excitement, a sedate stroll around Osborne House or through Ventnor Botanic Gardens will provide you with the perfect way to relax ahead of your evening out. Whether you’re in Cowes, Freshwater, or any of the other small towns or villages on the island, there’s no shortage of restaurants or quaint country inns to enjoy before bedtime.
The weekend should be dry and warm, with plenty of sunshine. The rays are strong, so take some sunscreen; but also an extra layer or two for those cool evenings out.
