Weekend SweetSpot – Scottish Borders – Rugged and Romantic

Planning a quick getaway? To help you make the most of your outdoor leisure time, weathertrending picks out the Weekend SweetSpot – an area of the UK that we think looks one of the better placed, weather-wise, for the upcoming weekend. This time we head to The Scottish Borders.

After the recent warmth, the weather’s returning to a cooler, more familiar, springtime mix. But while there will be showers around this weekend, some northern parts of the UK will see the best of the sunshine on offer. Great news for visitors to the Scottish Borders!

It’s easy to see why Sir Walter Scott found this the perfect, peaceful place to build his beloved home, Abbotsford. Sadly you may not have time to pen a romantic epic this weekend. But the upside is that there’s so much to get out and explore.

The many castles, stately homes and magnificent abbeys stand testament to the rich and, sometimes, turbulent history of this frontier land. Border towns such as Melrose, Hawick and Jedburgh all have their tale to tell.

But here you will now find beauty and serenity amidst the moors and valleys this weekend. The area offers some of the finest walking and cycling country in the UK. Fishing, golfing, quad-biking and archery add to the range of activities on offer for the fit and fun-loving.

Then a trip to the Berwickshire coast will offer a complete change of scenery. Breathe in the sea air as you gaze across the cliffs, before tucking into some freshly caught fish at Eyemouth.

There’s an abundance of tasty food and drink in the Scottish Borders – take one of the area’s foodie trails and get stuck in!

The weekend will be cool, with the possibility of a few showers. But much of the time it will be dry. And the spring sunshine will light up the drifts of wild spring flowers that adorn the sweeping moorlands.
