Weekend SweetSpot – Snowdonia – The peak of Welsh perfection

Planning a quick getaway? To help you make the most of your outdoor leisure time, weathertrending picks out the Weekend SweetSpot – an area of the UK that we think looks one of the better placed, weather-wise, for the upcoming weekend. This time we head to Snowdonia.

If you’re suffering from the post Bank Holiday blues, perhaps you’re already planning your next excursion away. After the crowded beaches of recent days, somewhere with a more tranquil beauty might be just what the doctor ordered.

Few places in the UK can compare with the serene majesty of Snowdonia.

With wild landscapes and villages steeped in history, Snowdonia National Park is a breathtaking destination for activity holidays, short breaks or days out with family and friends.

It’s best known for hiking, but there’s plenty more to enjoy. From waterfalls, lakes and world-class mountain biking to a vintage steam railway that climbs the highest peak in Wales – Snowdonia has the lot. ‘There’s gold in them there hills’ too – as well as slate, silver and copper. So why not check out one of the mines.

Craggy mountains give way to ancient woodland and estuaries teeming with birds. Brooks burble under mossy bridges. Folded into these lovely landscapes are pretty stone cottages and welcoming market towns.

While heading down to the coast, you can visit the iconic Italianate village of Portmeirion, before stepping centuries back in time to the medieval Harlech Castle.

A few showers are possible this weekend, but with winds from the south, sheltered North Wales may be well-placed to avoid many of these. In the sunshine temperatures will pleasantly reach the low teens
