JANUARY SweetSpot – Dorset – Hidden gems sheltered from the elements

Fancy a mid-winter break? To help you make the most of your outdoor leisure time, weathertrending highlights the Monthly SweetSpot. For January, we explore the delights of Dorset. We pick out some of the events and attractions to look forward to in the area.

With winter yet to deal its harshest hand, it may be that we’ll soon need to seek out our most sheltered havens. Well, the south coast of England can often avoid the worst of any Arctic chill.

Dorset is a county of contrasts, offering the very best of countryside, coastline, events and attractions. It’s perfect for all ages and interests.

The unique Jurassic Coast is a must for visitors new and old. Take in the magnificent views of Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove as you hike through history – geologically speaking.

Alternatively, head inland through the many quaint villages or take in the grandeur of some of the county’s stately homes.

How many areas do you know that can boast a huge naked chalk giant, England’s first Natural World Heritage Site and the largest hillfort in Europe?!

The landscape may also look very familiar!  Dorset has been the star of many famous film and TV productions, including ITV’s multiple BAFTA winning crime drama Broadchurch.  Film-makers, poets and writers have all been captivated and had their imaginations charged by the outstanding beauty of Dorset’s landscape and coastline…and its easy to see why!

And if good food and drink is a must, then Dorset is for you!  With an abundance of fresh, local produce your taste buds will be in for a real treat.

So, if you’re after clear air, spectacular beaches and magnificent countryside with a vibrant events calendar and fantastic attractions then take a break to our January SweetSpot – Dorset!
