Jet Stream
Jet streams are narrow channels of high speed air (which can be as fast-moving as 200mph). They are often found at the top of the troposphere. Jet streams tend to occur at the frontal boundary of two very different airmasses - one cold and one much warmer. The main jet stream that affects the UK is the Polar Front Jet. This ripples across the Atlantic and steers active areas of low pressure towards us
