Trough

This denotes a distinct linear zone of relatively low pressure, towards which air is converging. Within the trough, the convergent air will then tend to rise. The rising air within troughs tends to cool, enhancing cloud development, and often producing rain or snow. Troughs can occur over widely differing scales, and at different heights within the atmosphere.
