Vorticity
A crucial element in meteorology is the degree of vorticity (or spin) that the atmosphere possesses. Vorticity is provided both by the rotation of the Earth, but also as result of more localised factors. The approach of an area of high relative vorticity encourages air to ascend, causing lower pressure to develop near the ground. Such indicators are a very useful tool in predicting where cloud and precipitation will develop.
